Undue Donor Influence on Curriculum
- Donor-Approved Fellow Would Teach Atlas Shrugged - Page 2 of this UA grant proposal promises that one of the fellows in the Philosophy of Freedom program at UA will teach a course on Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged one semester, while Prof. Schmidtz will teach a course on The Fountainhead the other semester. Page 3 gives the donor final approval over the selection process for candidates.
- Kendrick Promised Over 200K Per Year to Create a Course in Ethics and Economics of Wealth Creation - Says Kendrick will give over $200K per year for five years, unless Schmidtz leaves UA. Some of that money will be used to create the course “Ethics and Economics of Wealth Creation.”
- Kendrick Dictated Course Content - Guarantees that the wealth creation course will be taught substantially per the syllabus provided to Kendrick.
- Philosophy Head Knuckles Under to Kendrick — Both Stylistically and Substantively - This obsequious thank you letter promises that “Ethics and Economics of Wealth Creation” will be taught per the syllabus that Schmidtz sent to Kendrick – which remains true to this day!
